自從西班牙大提琴泰斗卡薩爾斯將巴哈六首無伴奏大提琴組曲發揚光大以來，這套曲目遂成為所有大提琴家終其一生鑽研的寶典。巴哈在有限的音符中，賦予無窮的可能性，愈是嚴格反而愈自由；任何人都能從這六首曲目當中，獲得數不盡的樂趣。它在西洋音樂史上的重要性，想必毋需我們再做贅述。

法國大提琴家「Jean-Max Clement (1910-1961)」是位謎一樣的演奏家，曾任蒙地卡羅交響樂團大提琴團員，這份1958年為法國「天堂鳥(L'Oiseau-Lyre)」唱片公司所灌錄的立體聲版巴哈無伴奏全集，是我們對他琴藝唯一的線索，除此之外，他的生平我們一無所知。在 Jean-Max Clement 的詮釋角度，速度相當緩慢，絲毫沒有沉悶之感，反倒有股自由奔放的活力美感，此大作在他豐富想像力驅使之下，樂章間環環相扣，內在邏輯極為緊密，再加上極具個人化的斷音奏法(staccato)，更為演繹增添豐富的魅力，此高度個性搭配彈性自由的優異演奏，令人一聽難忘，在多如牛毛的巴哈無伴奏版本中實屬少見。
